Bad Fuel?

The picture below is a fuel rail from a BA Falcon RTV ute. Customer complaint was rough running, excessive fuel usage and stalling at lights.

After a scan and fuel pressure check the rail was removed to inspect a suspect fuel pressure regulator.

When the fuel pressure regulator was removed we noticed heavy contamination blocking the return ports on the regulator. Further inspection with a bore scope in the rail showed internal rust.

A replacement rail and fuel pressure regulator fitted with a new filter, the fuel pressure was checked and found to be within specification, road tested and found normal operation had been restored.

We recommend always buying your fuel from a reputable fuel outlet and keeping fuel filters replaced as per manufacturers recommendation to avoid costly repairs.
